In case you didn't catch it already, my name is Cheryl Glenn and I grew up in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. I graduated from from Mt. Vernon Township High School in 1996. After high school I went to Belmont University, in Nashville, Tennessee, to study Music Business. After two years in the Music Business program, I felt that God was leading me to pursue full-time ministry as a vocation, so I changed my major to Religion and took on a Youth/Recreation Ministry minor. I graduated with my B.A. in Religion in May 2000 and moved to Henderson, Kentucky, where I took a full-time ministry position at a Methodist Church.
As I was serving in Kentucky, I knew that God was moving me in a different direction and as I sought His will, I felt led to move back to my hometown to pursue other ministry opportunities. At the end of January 2001, I moved back in with my parents in Mt. Vernon (that was pretty wild!) and began the process of applying for overseas work with a Christian international relief and development organization, called Food For The Hungry. I accepted a position to serve in Peru and then began the monumental task of raising the support needed to serve for three years.
As I raised support, I had a sense that the timing wasn't quite right. I knew that God was using me in Mt. Vernon and I just didn't feel with my whole heart that I was supposed to go to Peru. God was also using this time at home to continue to reveal to me more specific details about the call that He has on my life. This call, ultimately, is to serve Him, but He was showing me how He wanted to use me in a combination of worship, student ministry and missions.
This has been and will continue to be my journey. Daily, I find myself praying for the grace to walk in His steps and to follow Him with a faithful and committed heart.
My journey has taken me to many places around the world. I've had the chance to travel to Central and South America and I even got to live just outside of London, England, for two years, while serving in a church there.
These days, I find myself serving as the Director of Worship at Cypress Meadows Community Church, in Clearwater, Florida. And I'm just taking each day as it comes.... Learning to love and live in the grace of God.
